Can tmp or tmp2 store strings?

No. However, another property could be added to store a string.

(Yes, I do realize this is necro, but it relates closely enough to go here.)

Does ctype store a string, or does it just store the index (DUST=1, WATR=2, etc.) of the ctype particle?

    Type and ctype are bytes
vx, vy, x, y, life, tmp, tmp2 are floats on client and words on server
    dcolour is doubleword

Okay dokey. So currently, no strings can be stored easily in a particle's properties.

I dont think it would be possible because variable length strings would eat allocation heap, and not-variable length would eat memory too much, like 50mb
